Ritzenhein, Flanagan and Tegenkamp Shine in Boston / by Scott Bush

The Boston Marathon took place Monday and Portland-based and ex-Portland athletes showed tremendously well. For starters, former Nike Oregon Project runner Dathan Ritzenhein led for much of the race before being dropped over the final 10K. He hung on to place seventh overall in 2:11:20, one spot ahead of defending champion Meb Keflezighi.

Meanwhile, Bowerman Track Club's Matt Tegenkamp placed eleventh overall in 2:13:52, as he continues to build his marathon resume heading into the Olympic Marathon Trials.

On the women's side, Des Linden was top American in fourth place with a finishing time of 2:25:39. Bowerman Track Club's Shalane Flanagan ran tough for much of the race, before slowing a bit over the final 15K to place ninth overall in 2:27:47.

Ritzenhein, Tegenkamp and Flanagan are all considered top three threats for the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials in Los Angeles early next year.
