EUGENE, Ore. – With coveted berths in the 2015 IAAF World Championships at stake, TrackTown USA will play host to the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field this summer.
The four-day meet will be held June 25-28.
The top three finishers in each event who have met IAAF qualifying standards – plus reigning World Champions and Diamond League champions – earn spots on Team USA that will compete at the IAAF World Championships, Aug. 22-30, in Beijing.
At the same time, the USATF’s Junior Outdoor Championships will be contested at Hayward Field, June 25-27. Those athletes, age 19 and under, will be looking to qualify for the 2015 Pan American Junior Championships, July 31-August 2, in Edmonton, Canada.
In addition, athletes competing in TrackTown USA will comprise the U.S. contingent for the NACAC Senior Championships to be held August 7-9 in San Jose, Costa Rica.
All-session tickets for the 2015 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be available online on Friday. Single-day tickets go on sale later this spring. You can access the competition schedule at usatf.org.
As the local organizing committee, TrackTown USA will be adding to a long record of hosting championship events.
The highly acclaimed IAAF World Junior Championships were held at Hayward Field last summer with 1,700 athletes from 167 countries competing in front of large and enthusiastic crowds. Those in attendance – the six-day meet drew a total of 51,532 fans – were treated to two world junior records, seven championship meet records and 84 national junior records.
Eugene has also played host to the U.S. Olympic Trials on five occasions – 1972, 1976, 1980, 2008 and 2012 – and will do so again in 2016. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships return to Hayward Field, June 10-13, and the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships will be held at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, March 18-20.
