TrackTown USA, Ninkasi Form Partnership / by Scott Bush

TrackTown USA teams up with Ninkasi Brewing & Bigfoot Beverages to bring runner-approved craft beer to Fan Festival at Hayward Field in July

EUGENE, Ore. – Few things in life go together better than craft beer and running, especially in the state of Oregon.

The Eugene-Springfield community, also known as TrackTown USA, is home to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, and a thriving craft beer community. When Ninkasi Brewing Company, an independent craft brewery, decided it was time to deliver a beer for runners, by runners, a partnership with TrackTown USA was a natural fit.

“We’re excited to partner with Ninkasi Brewing Company and its local wholesale partner Bigfoot Beverages,” TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna said. “Ninkasi and Bigfoot have already shown an innovative connection to the running community and we look forward to their activations at the Fan Festival at Hayward Field.”

Ninkasi set out to produce a beer specifically crafted with runners in mind – aptly named Beer Run IPA. An initial test batch was produced with the intent to garner feedback from runners across the country. Throughout March and April, comments were collected from runners at 25 different Beer Run Test Batch events, hosted in partnership with local running communities.

The result? A 7.3%, 80 IBU India Pale Ale featuring an earthy, tropical and juicy hop profile paired with a bright, clean bitter finish.

“We wanted to brew a beer to celebrate the running community that is so integral to Ninkasi and Eugene,” said Jamie Floyd, Ninkasi’s Founding Brewer, himself a runner. “We brewed, we ran, we tasted as a running community, and then we adjusted Beer Run’s recipe; this IPA is even more flavorful and quenching than the test batch.”

TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee for the Trials, expects more than 172,000 fans to attend the meet – July 1-10 at historic Hayward Field – and all will be looking for an immersive “TrackTown USA” experience. Thanks to its partnership with Bigfoot Beverages, Ninkasi’s local beer wholesaler, Beer Run IPA will be featured on-tap at four locations throughout the Fan Festival during the Trials. Until then, the beer can be found across Ninkasi’s distribution footprint in 22-ounce bottles and on-draft.

We’ll celebrate the crafting of Beer Run IPA with a three-mile run from the Ninkasi Tasting Room on Friday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. All levels of runners are invited to join this free event.
